Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority participated at OTM, one of the largest travel trade shows, to enhance the awareness of Mauritius as a preferred and up market destination to the Indian travellers. MTPA was at OTM to showcase the theme “Discover World’s Most Romantic Destination” and what makes the island unique.

The three-day tradeshow was inaugurated by Anil Kumarsingh GAYAN, SC, M.P., Honourable Minister of Tourism, Government of Mauritius in the presence of a host of other dignitaries from India and abroad.

Minister Gayan participated at the launch of Cine Tourism Report alongwith the Honourable Minister of Tourism India, Mr. K J Alphons. As a part of OTM, CineLocales was organised as a marketplace to connect Indian film, television and production houses to global destinations and locations.

Along with buying and selling opportunities at the show, exhibitors from various countries and states showcased various cultural performances. There was an equally interesting line-up of panel discussions conducted on the sidelines of the mart. Eminent experts and leaders from the industry spoke on the latest issues and prospects related to Domestic, Inbound, Outbound, MICE and Niche Tourism.

Destination weddings are a big thing in the Indian market and a number of destinations at OTM targetted this lucrative segment. A session on destination weddings was conducted by WeddingSutra. Mr Arvind Bundhun, Director, MTPA was one of the panellists at the session. At the discussion, the panellists revealed, that unlike earlier, today people are ready to change an auspicious date for a wedding and choose to stick to their favourite destination. Another change that has happened is that wedding ceremonies are usually a close-knit affair, with only the presence of near and dear ones at a destination.

At the inauguration, addressing the media the Hon. Minister said that OTM is the platform that showcases and celebrates tourism and plays an important part in poverty alleviation. He added that Tourism is an instrument for south-south co-operation. People with all types of knowledge, skills, capabilities and talent are able to find employment. He said, “we should promote tourism instead of terrorism, the two cannot co-exist”. He emphasized the unbreakable bond between India and Mauritius, saying that The Ganga that flows into the sea finds its way into the shores of Mauritius.
